File Formats

Preferred: PDF (vector format, scalable without losing quality)

Also accepted: JPG, TIF, EPS, PSD (high resolution)

Limited support: Canva, Microsoft Office, and other non-design programs. These files may require extra art setup time.

Document Setup

Document Size: Set your file to the final finished size. Keep all important content at least 0.25" from the edge.

Working at Scale: If your artwork is built at scale, you must clearly indicate the scale (for example, 1:10). Files without a scale indication will be produced at the incorrect size. Make sure images are high enough resolution for the final printed size.

Bleed: Include 1/8" (0.125") bleed on all sides whenever possible. Bleed helps prevent white edges after finishing.

PDF Export: PDF files are preferred. Use a high-quality export setting and include document bleed. Avoid image downsampling, especially for scaled artwork.

Technical Elements

Dielines: Include a dieline only for custom-shaped pieces. Dielines should be clean, closed vector paths that are clearly identified. In Illustrator, set dieline strokes to 1 pt, aligned to center.

White Ink: Provide white ink as a separate, clearly labeled spot color on its own layer. Transparencies must be flattened to print properly.

Fonts and Links: Embed linked files and outline fonts when sharing files. Packaged files are the exception.

Not Sure If Your Artwork meets these requirements? No problem!

Before You Send Your File

Use this checklist to make sure your file is ready:

  • File is set to the correct final size
  • Bleed is included (at least 0.125" all around)
  • Important content is inside safe margins
  • Images are high enough resolution
  • Fonts are outlined or included
  • Scale is clearly labeled (if not full size)
  • A PDF proof is included for reference
  • Spelling and sizing have been double-checked

Color

Standard: Use CMYK. Colors may vary from screen to print.

Color matching: If an exact color match is needed, use PANTONE® Solid Coated spot colors for vector graphics.

Image Resolution

Preferred: 300 PPI at full size

Minimum: 150 PPI at full size

Actual resolution needs vary with print size and viewing distance. Larger prints viewed from farther away need less resolution. Use this as a guide:

  • 6" to 24": 300 PPI
  • 2' to 4': 200 PPI
  • 4' to 8': 120 PPI
  • 8' to 16': 90 PPI
  • 16' to 32': 60 PPI
  • 32' to 64': 30 PPI
  • 64' and up: 18 PPI

Proofing Tips

  • Reference: Include a PDF proof as a visual along with your print file.
  • Zoom in: View your print file at full size to verify image quality.
  • Size: Double-check that your art file matches the size you ordered.
  • Proofread: Spell-check all text and confirm contact info and QR codes work.
